Zaninović Sisters Get Pre-Olympic Boost From Michael Phelps

Like my similar addition from last week, regarding Queen Elizabeth II supporting Croatian EU membership, It never hurts to get exposure and support from world famous athletes in your corner, especially from the likes of swimming legend Michael Phelps. I posted about Ana Zaninovic last year when she became Croatia's first World Champion in taekwondo. You can read about that HERE.

*(- There are accomplished medal winning and champion swimmers that are Croatian btw, including even world record

Taekwondo Klub Marijan website:

Famous American swimmer and winner of 16 Olympic medals Michael Phelps has called on all Croats to support Croatian Taekwondo sisters from the city of Split, Ana and Lucija Zaninovic in their bid for medals at this summer's Olympic games in London. Phelps was photographed holding up a sign which read 'Go Zaninovic' as part of a global campaign to urge supporters to get behind their medal hopefuls, reported RTL television.

Phelps was the most successful athlete at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and also in Peking in 2008. In Athens Phelps won 6 golds and 2 bronze while in Peking the swimmer won 8 golds. Ana Zaninović and sister Lucija are favoured to win medals in London. Lucija has 16 international medals whilst sister Ana has won 23 medals, including a world title in 2011.

Along with Men's World Cup Ski Champion, Ivica Kostel, Ana Zaninović was also voted  Croatian "Female Athlete of the Year" for 2011. Source:

Micheal Phelps Calling On Fans To Cheer On Zaninović Sisters

The closer the date of the Olympics approaches, our Olympic athletes in order to achieve great results they need the help of supporters.

Therefore, an initiative for cheering on global olympic and paralympic athletes, was joined by a famous swimmer Michael Phelps, who through photos on his Facebook profile called on Croats to cheer for Olympic contenders Ana and Lucija Zaninović.

Michael Phelps became the most successful Olympic athlete in Athens and Beijing, winning 16 Olympic medals - six gold and two bronze in Athens 2004, and eight gold at Beijing 2008.

Ana and Lucija and Zaninović are still waiting for their first Olympic medals. Ana Zaninović has won 23 medals, including the title of World Champion in 2011. This month she won a silver medal at the European Championships in Manchester. Lucija has 16 international medals. The sisters who are likened to boxing's Klitschko brothers in the media, are favorites ahead of the Olympic taekwondo competition this summer.
