Slaven Bilić On Right Track For Moscow Lokomotiv

Slaven Bilić guiding the troops at Lokomotiv Moscow

I'll probably do an all-encompassing post at the conclusion of the summer Olympics, there`s still exciting action going on as I`m writing this, and more to come. This is just a quick addition from last week. For those not in the know, former Croatian National Soccer Team manager, Slaven Bilić, took over the reigns at Lokomotiv Moscow after Euro2012.  The team is off to a good start taking 2 wins after the first 2 matches of the season.  Lokomotiv Moscow also signed Croatian National Team member Vedran Ćorluka just last week, (Who also happened to score a goal in his first appearance) Slaven will at least have 2 other Croatians on the team to shoot the breeze with,  now including also newly acquired goalkeeper  Dario Krešić.  (A bit of soccer gossip, Ćorluka is known for enjoying the company of hot women, (Who isn't?)..especially along the Croatian coast, so Moscow should suit him just fine, believe me)

There's even been some recent interview video footage of Slaven after his Russian Premier League debut and 1st coaching win, where he`s actually speaking Russian already.  He`s not fluent yet of course, he`s only been in Moscow a couple of weeks and during the interview throws in some Croatian at times, but the interviewer was surprised that he was speaking any Russian at all yet.  Since this interview he's become more popular in the media there also. I`m sure he`ll be speaking conversational Russian in the not too distant future.  On top of Croatian, he`s already fluent in German, Italian and English as well.   I posted about his newly acquired managerial position at Moscow Lokomotiv  previously HERE.  To be up to date with this story and other Croatia related soccer/sports news, you can always click onto

Lokomotiv Have Signed Vedran  Ćorluka

President of Lokomotiv Moscow, Olga Smorodskaya, after the recent signing of Vedran Ćorluka.

Croatian international defender Vedran Corluka became Loko’s first signing in this transfer window. The player stroke a three-year-contract after he had successfully completed his medical examination. The Croatian will join Lokomotiv at their training camp in Slovenia.

- I’m extremely happy we have managed to reinforce our team with such a high-level player as Corluka – says Kirill Kotov, Head of Selection Department. – Vedran is one of the leaders of the Croatia national team. He’s a top-level universal defender with perfect constitution and is good at heading. Besides playing in defence, he’s also good at starting attacks and has got a perfect vision of the field. Many European top-clubs wanted to sign Corluka, but he chose Lokomotiv. This helped a lot in talks with “Tottenham”.

Player’s Bio

Vedran Corluka was born on February 5, 1986 in Doboj, Bosnia. When Vedran turned 8 he enrolled with the Dinamo Zagreb football academy. Ten years later, Vedran signed his first contract as a professional player. On loan, he spent a year in FC Inter Zapresic and then returned to Dinamo. In just two years he became one of the team’s leaders and won gold medals of the Croatian championship twice, and won the Croatian Cup and Croatian Supercup.

Vedran will also join fellow Croatian import and goaltender Dario Krešić

In summer 2007,  Ćorluka joined “Manchester City”. There, he quickly felt at home and became a regular pick for the main squad. After a successful year with the Citizens Vedran became a target for the Tottenham scouts. As a result, soon the Croatian put on the Spurs’ jersey.

During four years at White Hart Lane Vedran made over a hundred appearances. The last half-season, he spent on loan in Bayer Leverkusen.

At the age of 20, Corluka made his debut for Team Croatia. Since then, he has played in more than 50 games for his country in different tournaments, including Euro-2008 and Euro-2012.

Corluka can play on different positions which is his main skill. He has played as a central defender, right defender and midfielder so far.
