"Buzet Racing Days" & Ivica Kostelic Goes For 10th Operation

I decided to mention this European racing event that takes place in the town of Buzet because it's very different from what most people think about when they hear the name of the town "Buzet".  Buzet is mostly well known for their rare world renown truffles, wines, folklore music and scenery.  But this picturesque, laid back and historic town has more exciting things to enjoy also it seems. Besides just watching these racing events, there's also entertainment, Croatian pop music acts/concerts, and of course the popular and great tasting local food/drink offers to try out, something for everyone. So if you're going to be in the area around this time you won't be saying "Geez, what the hell are we gonna do there if we go, just pick truffles?"  (Also the Adriatic beaches aren't that far away either, so swimming is just a short trip away too, summer beach season lasts right through September)  Just interesting and cool to know, whether you're into the racing , the food, music or even if you just like the smell of gasoline, quite a departure from what one usually thinks about when they hear the name of of the town "Buzet".  More about this event at the official website:

....I haven't mentioned Ivica Kostelic even once this past ski season either, so I decided to do this one. (I also found out that he's fluent not only in English, but also German, Italian and French)  Ivica has been skiing injured since day one this season, the first few races he was finishing far below the pack and not even close to what we are used to seeing,  it was obvious after the first 4 races that this was not going to be a repeat of his 2011 Overall Combined Championship season.  Surprisingly though, he did manage to reach the podium over the last few races and finally won his first race of the season last week. Now time for yet another operation.  If anything, it exemplifies perseverance and never giving up.  You haven't heard the last of the name "Ivica Kostelic" just quite yet........

(*I'm going back to finish up some studies at school full time over the better part of this year, so my additions here will be much less frequent compared to recently)

Buzet, famously known as the city of truffles, is also a well known for car racing. The city’s racing history dates back to the early fifties when one day a group of racing enthusiasts made up their minds to set up a racing event. Since then, Buzet has held yearly “hill climb” races that attracts visitors from around Europe.

ZAGREB, Croatia - The Croatian ski association says Ivica Kostelic will undergo knee surgery for the 10th time of his career.

Kostelic, who won a slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, on Sunday, will have the operation on his left knee in April, allowing him the chance to take part in the World Cup finals starting Wednesday despite the injury.

The 33-year-old Kostelic, who won the overall World Cup title in 2011, has dealt with numerous injuries during his career.

Kostelic has said he won't retire before taking part in next year's Sochi Olympics.
