Red Bull & Swatch FIVB Beach Volleyball Major Series To Make Croatian Stop In 2015

I don't have much to add about this one, I've done a few Red Bull extreme sports in Croatia posts before, (They're below the articles) and once again I have to say, you can't go wrong with your town or city being included into one of their extreme sports tours. (If you come across the news these days there's a hell of a lot worse things to be associated with that's for sure) This time Red Bull and Swatch are bringing the extreme beach volleyball action for a few days to the quaint coastal town of Poreč, in the north western Istiran peninsula.

I don't have any good images because they will be constructing the stands sometime in the early summer, enough to accommodate around 5,000 spectators. It should be a pretty interesting time as 5 days worth of exciting top notch beach volleyball action takes place. There's been other beach volleyball tournaments along the coast, and the World Grand Prix volleyball has been played in Poreč at the Žatika Sport Centre, but this will be the first time that the town will be hosting a major FIVB beach volleyball event. It should be a very exciting feel to the town for the 5 days and will probably update this story down the road. (Did you know that the founder and man behind Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, has Croatian ancestry? Yep, it's true. His parents were primary school teachers from near the city of Zadar on the Croatian coast. See one of my previous posts below or History of Croatian Surnames for interesting related information)

I've always liked a lot of the Red Bull sponsored extreme sporting events I've come across, from the extreme winter sports to this beach volleyball and lots of the stuff in between. It doesn't have all that pussy contract whining, tainted with overcompensating selfie acting, bulbous inflated head pointless chatter, salary cap and free agent crying and all that, like as if the whole world cares or is on the edge of their seats because all the lives revolve around them. Most of these extreme type athletes basically show up to get their shit  sporting activity done that they train for and don't give a fuck gosh-darn gee wilikers about the rest, the rest is just dessert and their own business.

Actually when you think about it, with Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Hungary so close by, and other countries not that far away either, extreme beach volleyball fans from those countries will also be able to easily take in the action, a perfect location. You know, after talking to him not that long ago, I said..."Listen Hugo (He likes to be called Hugo or Lucius Cornelius Hugo for some reason, don't ask me why, some people are just plain weird I guess)...Listen Hugo, it doesn't matter what the event is, it's all about location anyway...location, location, location. You could have a blind man's extreme tiddlywinks tournament in Poreč and it would probably be a can't miss marketing success." And what happens a week later?...Voilà. Anyway, all I can say about this one is let the kick ass extreme beach volleyball action commence.....

Red Bull Gives Beach Volleyball Wings

February 26, 2015, marked a similar line in the sand in the progression of the sport, as the great and good gathered in Lausanne, Switzerland, for the announcement of a new series. Red Bull, along with Swatch, the Swiss watchmaker, and volleyball event promoter Hannes Jagerhofer, have joined forces with the sport’s governing body, the FIVB, to create the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series – three events in Croatia, Norway and Switzerland to complement the five Grand Slams that also make up the FIVB World Tour in 2015. After these eight events will come the Swatch Beach Volleyball Season Final in Fort Lauderdale, USA.

Soft drinks manufacturer Red Bull, with its slogan “Red Bull gives you wings” has emerged in recent years as a major player in event management and marketing. Jagerhofer has promoted and staged many volleyball events. “This new partnership is the next step in the FIVB’s mission to ensure that volleyball is the world’s leading family sport entertainment through engagement, innovation and universality,” said Dr Ary S. Graça, president of the FIVB. The joint venture has committed to “long term backing” of the FIVB and is expected to significantly expand the Major Series, which has three events in 2015: Porec, Croatia; Stavanger, Norway and Gstaad, Switzerland.

The year 2015 will be action-packed for beach volleyball. There will be three Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series and five FIVB Grand Slams – all carrying the same prize money of $800,000 – before the Swatch Beach Volleyball Season Final takes place in the USA in October. The Swatch Beach Volleyball Season Final - exclusively reserved for the top-ranked eight teams and two wildcards – will award a total prize package of $500,000, with the winning teams (men’s and women’s) receiving $100,000 each.

Working closely with National Federations and private enterprises the FIVB aims to develop volleyball as a major world media and entertainment sport through world-class planning and organisation of competitions, marketing and development activities. The FIVB is part of the Olympic Movement, contributing to the success of the Olympic Games.

The posters and such for this upcoming Poreč beach volleyball event obviously aren't made up yet, but like I said, you can't can't go wrong with one of the numerous Red Bull sponsored extreme sporting events taking place at a location near you. Above an example from the 2014 Red Bull Rovinj Croatia Air Race.

A scene from the Red Bull Sidrun extreme volleyball tournament that took place at various coastal locations in Croatia last year. More about that at my Red Bull Sidrun Hardcore Waterloo Tournament post.

I already did a post about the Red Bull Sidrun Waterpolo event from last year, here's an image from a Red Bull sponsored flying competition that took place in Dubrovnik a while ago. It's like you blink and you'll miss a Red Bull event.

The early preview trailers for the newly announced FIVB Beach Volleyball tour locations. (Until some new promos come out just go watch some Red Bull cartoons)

I tried to find a short video to show in and around Poreč, but so many of them are just too polished and touristy, this German commentary video is the least touristy one I could find. (Feel free to make yourself a Red Bull Martini while watching)

There's also an Italian minority in Poreč, so if you're in the area and will be watching the beach volleyball action, you really should buy an ice-cream at this specific ice-cream parlour. You'll see what I mean.
