German TV Series 'Mordkommission Split' & NBC's 'Emerald City' Filming In Croatia (+ Updated Video Trailer)

This is going to be the Oz that all your worst nightmares could never imagine, even much worse and hellish than any Richard Simmons exercise video.

These stories are from a few weeks ago. The first one doesn't even have an official trailer yet, so there's no video. (You can hit the "more information" link below to see one down the road) I like the whole concept behind this one, and them choosing Croatia as a filming location is pretty cool. I've always liked watching the "Wizard of Oz' as a kid, and this new updated version sounds promising, seems more darker, edgier, macabre, something really different. Also, this one is being executivley produced by Shaun Cassidy, (he was sort of like a Beiber of the 1970's actually, for those unfamiliar) and he was also the guy behind American Gothic which was a cool television series I used to watch regularly in the 90's, a series ahead of it's time actually. So this could very well be one of the rare television series' I would watch. I don't know what locations, castles or other buildings will be used, but it's something to keep in mind when it's on tv. The role of "The Wizard" will be portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio, but I think Christopher Walken or Javier Bardem would have been good choices too. (What business is it of yours?...Tin Man.)

The second post is actually being filmed right now in the city of Split, a German produced series named ‘Mordkommission Split’, a crime and detective drama series that will be centered in the city of Split. Probably episodes will revolve around trying to solve crimes related to various traveling televangelists and diabolical mind control cults, bootleg muslim-rap cartel cd's, jihadist migrants and fundamentals, voodoo cannibal cults, apprehending fake designer bikini smugglers and various other smugglers, stopping contraband halal meats shipments, mysterious cafe kidnappings, strange body parts and limbs washing up on shore, exciting shootouts in and around castles and restaurants, and probably stopping pointless maggots from sneaking into the city and country to initiate various shocking predicaments, stuff like that. If they film some scenes at a restaurant or cafe table where there's some classified contracts, agreements or detective talk going on, and it was one of the places I was at before, then I could say, "Hey, I drank a beer at that place." That would be cool too.

I also found out that besides 'Game of Thrones' being filmed, that this will be the 10th foreign television series that will film at Croatian locations just this year alone. The series was originally supposed to be filmed in Istanbul, but the way things are down there right now with all the jihads, muslim terrorists and fundamentals, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to even photograph a cafe scene there right now, there's a good chance the cafe could explode or in a matter of seconds turn into that terrorists in a Volkswagen van scene from Back to the Future, blood and limb parts all over the camera, not an ideal filming experience at all. This series will also have over 400 local extras during the filming, however there's no trailer for this one yet either.

(According to some updated information after doing this post, filming will be starting up soon in the city of Dubrovnik. More information HERE)

NBC Series ‘Emerald City’ to be Filmed in Croatia

Croatia is set to provide the scenery for another international series….

This time it is NBC’s ‘Emerald City’, a 10-part series on the famous Wizard of Oz story. Filming for the series is set to take part in Croatia, Spain and Hungary, according to KFTV.

The 10-episode series, produced by Shaun Cassidy and David Schulner, centres on the Wizard of Oz, which will be played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Adria Arjona, from True Detective, will play Dorothy.

Emerald City , a Universal TV production, is described as a modern and dark reimagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of Game Of Thrones, drawing upon stories from Baum’s original 14 books.

Croatia has been the scene for a number of international productions recently, most famously Game of Thrones, The Dig, and The Lake.

The series is based on L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz book series and was originally developed for the 2013-14 season and picked up straight to series in January 2014. However, the network opted not to move forward when NBC and producers could not agree on a shared vision for the show. Producers Universal Television shopped the series to other potential networks before NBC revived the series in April with David Schulner (Dracula) and executive producer Shaun Cassidy replacing Josh Friedman and Matt Arnold.

A brief synopsis of the plot:

Desperate for clues that will lead to the identity of her biological mother, a young woman breaks into a sinister underground facility somewhere in the Midwest. Unable to complete her mission and surrounded by security, our feisty heroine steals a K9 police dog and drives away into the night… and headlong into the path of a raging tornado. In the blink of an eye, she is transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic, and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and 20-year-old Dorothy Gale becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands. The original classic movie Wizard, Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow are going to shed their novel clothes and personas and show you who and what they really are underneath, the viewer will be left feeling as if their minds are melting, expanding and imploding at the same time, their very existence being questioned. You’re not in Kansas anymore, and this is not your Grandmother’s Oz.

Updated video teaser, the Croatia filming locations were mainly in and around Dubrovnik and at the Plitvice National Park waterfalls.

German Crime Film Begins Shooting in Split

Filming for the German TV film ‘Mordkommission Split’ has begun in Split on Thursday…Croatian Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin, who was at Split’s ACI Marina yesterday where filming was launched, said that the film will play another big role in the promotion of Croatia.

“This film will definitely help promote Croatia, especially to those who have never been here before. It really is a quality promotion considering that the film will be shot in the centre of Split until the middle of November. (Filming) is one very visibly effective form of promotion, which the Koreans reacted to when they shot a reality TV show here and came back this year to film a new part,” said Lorencin.‘

Mordkommission Split’ is a German detective film which follows investigations carried out by head of Split’s murder section Detective Branka Marić. Main roles in the film will be played by German actress Neda Rahmanian, as well as Lenn Kudrjawizki, Kasem Hoxha, Alexander Jovanovic, Adreas Guenther, Alma Prica, Leon Lučev, Goran Navojec, Janko Rakoša and Max Herbrechter, with around 400 local extras used during filming in Split.

The German production, who will take advantage of Croatian Audiovisual Centre incentives, will spend close to 2 million euros during 45 days filming in Croatia. Filming will end on 11 November with the film airing in Spring 2016 on the German television network ARD.

In a nutshell, the German cast and producers say they are excited and happy to be filming episodes in Croatia and the city of Split. (What's not to be happy about, you're filming in the city of Spit after all) Video source:
